Over the recent years we have seen a cultural shift towards non-smoking, and it is all for the better. With severe and proven health hazards associated with tobacco it is a delight that cigarette, cigar, rollie – essentially all tobacco smokers have been banished from all public indoor establishments throughout the UK. But what does this mean for the actual tobacco smoker?
It is quite straight forward. Smoke outdoors with the knowledge of what harm you are causing yourself or…quit. However, quitting is easier said than done and any smoker out there will appreciate when I say it is quite difficult to kick the habit.
So here is my dilemma. I want to be healthier, but I know I am not able to simply put the cigarette down as I do take immense pleasure in sneaking that relaxing little ciggie-drag here and there. Nicotine patches? – Not for me, tried them wasn’t pleased. They made me dizzy, I bumped into glass doors once and frankly, I need something to hold – a cigarette.
After talking to friends and chatting on numerous forums, it was frequently suggested that I consider the electronic cigarette. I learnt that the e-cigarette is a much healthier alternative and can be used as a transition aid from smoking to non-smoking, should your intentions remain to quit. The aid is supported by the NHS and e-cigarettes are to be licensed and regulated as medicines - as an aid to quit smoking, which means you could also get them on prescription from 2016!
E-cigarettes do not contain tobacco – only nicotine. While nicotine is addictive it is much less dangerous than tobacco and therefore vaping (smoking e-cigarettes) is thought to be a much safer alternative to tobacco-smoking for those unable or unwilling to quit.
As I am completing my Christmas Wish List (we do this every year and post it on our Facebooks so that family and friends gift useful gifts rather than something that will end up stored in a cupboard) I decided to window-web-shop in an attempt to include the useful smoking aid to help me kick (or alter) the habit.
On this occasion I’ll go with Vype, simply because the brand offers rechargeable cigarettes, cartridges, disposable cigarettes, and a free test sample on their webpage (offer ends Friday 6th December 2013) – in the essence of things we don’t have to buy until we try, which is always nice!
The rechargeable e-cigarette kit retails for £14.99, cartridges are £7.99 (approx. 250 puffs per cartridge), and disposable cigarettes are £5.99.
