Yeashin Kim

Among many fashion designers there sits a 22 year old, fresh faced woman by the name of Yeashin Kim.

Born and raised in South Korea, until she decided to move forward with her life and relocated to London where she started her own fashion brand. After sometime of designing and collecting inspiration, she graduated from the London College of Fashion. There and then the brand 'Yeashin' was born.

Her designs are based on traditional Korean clothing combined with British 60’s glamour, elegance, and distinctive designs are key to her style.

Spring/Summer 2014 collection 'Summer Afternoon Party'

The warmth of summer sunshine and the colours of the spring flowers are believed to be the main influence and inspiration that helped to create Yeashin’s SS14 collection.

The pale and faded tones of colours such as blue, pink and green with the highlights of gold, ivory and white create the female form and present a very feminine look. The use of flowing chiffon and organza used in her work mixed with silk and lace provide a very elegant yet structured element which allows her designs to become beautiful and unique art.

Detailing and design is the key to her magnificently, distinctive collection. With subtle colour blocking and unique accents that bring out a frivolous and whimsical edge to each garment. Clever paneling is also employed to highlight the different fabrics used and they also accentuate the structure of the clothing.

Yashin’s catwalk at the Freemason’s Hall was a fascinating and beautifully created show which allowed the audience to experience what it might be like to think the way Yeashin Kim thinks. Each model was given an emotionless look with naturally made up faces therefore allowing the garments to be the only thing grabbing the attention of the audiences. It was slowly paced as the models gracefully made their way down the catwalk to the beautiful sound of 'La Valse D'Amélie' by Yann Tiersen which only made the presentation of the show a more sensational experience.

Previous collections from Yeashin

'Garden of East' is her 2012 collection, the theme between 'Summer Afternoon Party' and this one show similar designs as they are both quite quirky and stylish, giving a very feminine, doll like image to her designs that bring out more of Yeashin's personality.

Her first collection 'Sea Creatures' does come across as quite significantly different to the recent collections, here she uses bright, bold colours that burst into each other creating an intense, pop art like design which reflect the way certain sea creatures look and move. It’s an unusual perspective to work from but it works fantastically.

Yeashin Kim’s imagination is the reason she is so successful, her wild ideas being created into gorgeous pieces of art demonstrates her originality. Her exact ideas may not hit the high streets anytime soon but certain aspects from her designs like colour and shape have already started to appear in places such as Topshop and Zara.
