Joanne Hynes SS12 - fun, quirky and a little confusing

Joanne Hynes Spring/Summer 2012 collection was fun, quirky and a little confusing. From the press release attempt to describe the ‘Joanne Hynes girl’ it was clear that this was a near impossible task, full of contradictions and attempts to include just about every fashion era. It was evident that the collection would be conflicted.

Although I did find the collection a little convoluted and pinpointing any clear-cut theme was indeed tricky, the explosion of ideas made for an interesting show. Boxy smock dresses and jackets made from colour-blocked leather hinted to a mod vibe and wouldn’t have looked out of place on Edie Sedgwick. The beaded pencil skirt and vest combination held futuristic elements and the use of Picasso inspired characters emblazed on dresses and jackets brought a playful feel to the collection.

The jewellery added another bit of kitsch as unusual mythical robot characters hung on chains creating huge statement pieces. The highlight of the Joanne Hynes show for me was the latex tights in neon shades cut like old Hollywood stockings. They were repeatedly used bringing a sense of continuation to a bogglingly busy catwalk show.
