A Giggle Keeps The Ticker Going

I love laughing. I laugh at nearly everything. When I laugh I use my full face. My cheeks tighten, my eyes shrink and feel like they are going to fall out. Please keep the following fact in mind. I once spent 10 minutes laughing at my own toes.

Dear Hogwild

Hogwild's joke book interested me because I love humour that revolves around other people’s relationship woes; I'm an avid Dear Deirdre reader after all. So the format caught my attention, the trick is to keep me interested.

The whole book is about Hog giving relationship 'advice' to people in need. He in turn gives cheeky and apparently off the cuff answers to their questions which obviously are no help to the fictional patients. It is endearing to imagine such a response from a relationship expert. That image of a young man (probably early twenties) sitting behind an office desk, having a rant at me which is supposedly fixing my relationship problems is hilarious. I'll give that to the writer.

I Am A Woman Remember

I did have one issue with the book, which is something that cannot be fixed. I am a woman, and generally as a woman I don't really want to read joke after joke about having sex with a woman. I also think that maybe as a woman who has sex with a male partner I don't need any advice (funny or not) on how to make a woman... you know.

Aside from that I can see the humour for others. I know male friends would probably find it hard to put the book down. The male friends who are still in their early twenties and don't get sex very often. Yeah, they'll love it. My suggestion would be to maybe take less masculine approach to joking about relationships and sex. Also maybe up the maturity level about it.

Unless you want to read it to your pals after two bottles of wine, then do not change a thing.

Hogwild’s dating tips and advice – The Book – The Review

Hogwild describes himself as a professional teacher, comedian and dating advisor. He runs a membership website where he offers advice and attempts to be amusing with it. The website itself is not too bad with some advice without being laugh-out-loud funny. His book presents a collection of letters to and from his readers.

There are some comedy books which you cannot stop reading; you enjoy every page and devour them with a passion. Great comedy works like Catch-22, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Adolf Hitler, My Part in his Downfall. Hog Wild's book is not one of them.

When committed to the page Hogwild's Advice, lists and stories come across as the rambling views of an angry young man new to dating. Think the blonde chap from the Inbetweeners getting off on Viz magazine. There is some crass humour in the long stories and the one-liners do not really work. There is the occasionally amusing line here and there; it is about once every 30 pages at best. But mostly it is Viz meets top shelf porno stories. Buy the Game instead if you want a bad book on dating. The best thing about this book was that it was not a hard copy, so the world saved a tree.
