'A Tranny is Born!' ripens into 'A Girls Night Out'

When we saw Miss Kimberley last at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern we walked away impressed, and of course, with an interview handy for Retox Magazine. ‘A Tranny is Born!’ had turned out to be a brilliant night in every possible way.

With news surfacing about Miss Kimberley’s next performance set to take place once again at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern on the 5th of November, we have decided to spice up the anticipation for ‘A Girls Night Out’ by sharing this exciting interview with you!

Retox Magazine: We are at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern and Miss Kimberley opens her set with Bassey’s bouncy number Get the Party Started. Didn’t Pink also do a version a few years back? Hmmm… Would be interesting getting the three divas on one stage. When I say divas, I of course mean Bassey, Pink and our very own Miss Kimberley. So would you like to perform with Bassey or Pink?

Miss Kimberley: I would love to perform with Bassey. I never knew who she was until I moved to the UK. I met her once and boy she is one diva. With Pink, I don't think I could keep up with her. So I guess the answer is no way, LOL.

Retox Magazine: Rather surprised with how good your vocals are! Kimberley, did you know you could sing?

Miss Kimberley: Why thank you. I think everyone can sing. It's just a matter of finding your voice and really wanting to do it. Of course you can't just walk on a stage and sing. You have to train and train hard. Even the best singers in the world train continuously.

Retox Magazine: Hey bad girl, what’s with the cheeky line-up of songs? (If I Were a Boy, I’m a Woman, Private Dance, Bad Girls and Fuck You Requiem)

Miss Kimberley: I love the cheeky songs. You need to have some cheek in a show or it becomes too serious and boring. I like to keep my audience on their feet at all times.

So Miss Kimberley gives her audience an insight of a boy becoming a man to woman experience. Quite a good story really.

Retox Magazine: Can you tell it again to the Retox Mag fan club please? :p

Miss Kimberley: OMG where do I start? Or shall we wait for my book that’s coming out in the next 60 years?

Retox Magazine: What’s your biggest secret?

Miss Kimberley: My biggest secret, I have 5 children with one on the way. They all have different fathers and some I don't even know, LOL!

Retox Magazine: What’s the secret behind your honeyed vocals? We wanna sing like you do!!

Miss Kimberley: LOL Sing like me? That’s very funny. However thanks. I never look at myself as a good singer. I would say, I'm an entertainer who sounds ok.

Retox Magazine: We love your band Miss Kimberley! The musicians are fab! The whole 1940’s feel, the guitar, the keys, the double bass, the jazz drum kit. Why did you decide to go for this sort of a vibe?

Miss Kimberley: You just can't go wrong with that sound. A mix of jazz, funk and with a show tune theme.

Retox Magazine: Did you know that your musicians want to play naked?? (A small conversation we had over a smoke! LOL)

Miss Kimberley: Those dirty straight boys, they will do anything to make money. However one of them is packing loads down there, not that I have notice, LOL.

Retox Magazine: You look great, what’s the deal with that? Do you always look this HOTTT?

Miss Kimberley: You are too kind. Do you want to be my new girlfriend, lol? I go to the gym most days. I do eat very well except when I have a hang over and dash to KFC. However I do think the key to looking good is happiness, feeling good about yourself and keeping a positive mind.

Towards the end of the show Miss Kimberley gives a great performance with Reach Out and Touch number involving the audience and giving them a star solo moment on the chorus. After lubricating their vocal chords with alcohol most guests were vocally competent. Then, out of a puff of smoke, the final and unexpectedly overpowering soulful vox was unleashed from within the audience. The performance came from a fabulous lady in white…

Retox Magazine: Wow! Who was that? Can we kidnap her?

Miss Kimberley: That’s my lovely sister Victoria Wilson James. She directed the show. She is very much a diva. She sang with Soul to Soul and the Shamen. She's now producing.

Retox Magazine: So this is the thing. We really liked your gig and we would like to see you again. Where can we catch you next?

Miss Kimberley: I'm at the Cambria every Sunday, the Supperclub every week and the Royal Vauxhall Tavern on the 5th of Nov.

Retox Magazine: Great, we’ll be there. And to wrap-up our chat, if you were to sing a song at a Retox Magazine party, what would it be, how would you sing it and why?

Miss Kimberley: I would have to sit down with my musical director Richard Link and write something special and believe me it would be a hit. Can you do the backing vocals?
