Georgia Hardinge Spring/Summer 2012

I haven’t wanted to own a collection more than Georgia Hardinge's latest Spring/Summer 2012 showcase. 'Perfection' wouldn’t do this collection justice. It took risks but remained incredibly wearable featuring gowns, playsuits and minis taking inspirations from the 'dark nature of cubo-futurism'.

The collection comprised shades of grey, juxtaposed with flashes of burnt orange and cobalt blue. This led to a sophisticated clean aesthetic allowing the graphic geometric prints and designs themselves to be the main focus of attention. The print itself consisted of a number of lines symmetrically interlinking and explored ideas of depth and perspective. Despite its heavy repetition the print failed to exhaust itself and stayed true to Georgia Hardinge’s futurist inspiration, which was echoed in impeccable box bun styled hair.

Georgia Hardinge’s gowns were all about movement with billowing silk chiffon trains and capes challenging the rigidity of other structured garments. The maxi dresses flirted with transparency as tighter and shorter dresses were overlaid with veils of chiffon exploring understated sexy. The contrast of opaque cube skirts and flattened diamond panels extending the torso added a new dimension as the body was distorted with a mathematical feeling. The two clashing ideas of free movement and control made for an exciting collection and proved that Georgia Hardinge isn’t just about print, but a designer for the modern woman.

On top of the beautiful collection the show also boasted the best soundtrack I witnessed at fashion week this season and has had me hooked to Jess Mills ever since. Georgia Hardinge I am in awe!
