Exhibition at Graffik Gallery - Dan Kitchener

Dan Kitchener, aka Dank, is a talented street artist who brings great range to his work as both a private and commercial artist. His work can be found on walls around East London and Essex and his Geisha creation that was displayed on Brick Lane is a key influence in this display. Along with variations on the Geisha image there is a range of Manga style pieces from his Tokyo Neon collection. The artist is clearly interested in the Japanese comic style and the works reflect the emotions of the subjects the artist has created.

Especially impressive is the skill of Dan Kitchener in using stray paint in such detail on an acrylic canvas. The street art influence is strong, but not in the style of Banksy's social commentaries, with this collection having a more obviously mainstream audience, in addition to the Geisha and Manga inspired pieces.

Dank's "lightscapes" like Electric Eels and City Rain offer a clever insight into the conflict of London's easy life. The lights of London have for a long time, and now more than ever, represented excitement and vibrancy of London. Dank plays on this theme but cleverly blends that with injecting the blurs of light onto dark London scenes we will know. Thereby updating the concept for the 21st century and the busy, dirty and often stressed and angry streets of London, which is so familiar to the people of London at the current time.

Dank's works are unpretentious much like the artist himself and in the increasingly busy scene of commercial street art that is extremely refreshing. The pieces in this collection range from the £500 and up mark. Dan Kitchener is also a talented commercial artists and has produced artwork for Paul McCartney’s set for the Queen’s Jubilee and his on the run tour, Kylie Minogue and many others.

The collection at the Graffik Gallary is a great opportunity to purchase beautiful modern street art at an affordable price until the 7th of July.
