The meaning of life…

What is the true meaning of life and are we fulfilling it correctly?

These are the questions we are all at some point asking ourselves; it hovers around in our minds and keeps us guessing. The answer is that no one will ever know.

Maybe the realisation occurs when we are seconds from death or maybe we will just never find out.

Even if a genius created a logical explanation, would people change? If you knew the true meaning of your life, would you change the way you treated other people?

Would it banish war and stop us all from discriminating or manipulating those around us?

No it wouldn’t.

What category are you labelled as?

People

We are only human and in this century we’re programmed to believe what society wants us to believe. We are often taught to believe that girls need to be super skinny, flawless and do everything to make men around us happy. From the covers of magazines to what’s shown in movies, we are often lead to believe that our opinions do not matter, that what we see around us is right and is the answer to happiness. In the mainstream society ORIGINALITY IS DEAD. No matter how hard we may try to be ‘different’ we will always be labelled or placed into categories just like food is or animals are, and that’s not right.

Many of us are so scared to be different, to be judged that we become someone we’re not and over time we forget who we really are.

Does God discriminate?

A lot of people put their faith and hope in a religion and believe in doing so that it will lead to a happy and peaceful life, this however is not always the case. Many conflicts around the world are fuelled by religion, people are judged based on their religion due to events that may have happened many years ago or even their sexuality. Surely if ‘God’ loved all of his creations then it wouldn’t matter what gender people fell in love with or took interest in.

So many people are terrified of being who they truly are because they’re afraid that their friends and family would judge them and even disown them. It’s saddening to have to hear about people who go through this, all because many of us can’t tell the difference between the ‘heroes’ and the ‘villains’ and that if you’re part of a certain group that may be ‘frowned upon’ you’re automatically labelled a bad person.

Being religious is certainly not a bad thing. It’s important to have a strong belief to keep many people sane but it shouldn’t allow them to become closed minded. Having such a strong belief is there to create a better person not to make them hateful of those who may be different, and especially when they have no choice in the matter.

Whether you’re skinny, curvy, black, white, gay or straight, or even if you have facial features which don’t appeal to others, they have absolutely no right to a judgemental opinion in the matter and their words shouldn’t hurt you. I’m quoting Macklemore here and saying, ‘THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE’.

Underneath your skin you just have the same skeleton as a black man or a white man, as a straight man or a homosexual man; it’s the personality that makes a person who they are, not their appearance.

If there was no such thing as religion, would the world be a better place? If the 9/11 attack did not occur would many still discriminate against all Muslims?

Well, I don’t believe that humanity would be any better; it’s not religion that’s the issue, it’s the way people act upon certain situations.

There will always be something that will be ‘frowned upon’ and much of it needs to stop. We need to change how we are towards one another and accept people for being themselves and having the courage to be their true selves.

Don’t procrastinate from making positive changes

When you die, that’s it. Your life is over and there is nothing you can do to change how you lived it. You may end up on your deathbed regretting the way you acted towards the people you didn’t give a chance to know before passing judgment on them, and you may regret that your judgemental actions may have negatively affected their entire lives, but a reflection on your deathbed is a reflection a lifetime too late.

You don’t know when you’re going to die, it may be tomorrow or next year or you might end up living a full life but remember how you want people to remember you. Start now, become more open minded. Accept people for who they are not what you want them to be like, and smile. Smile at the people you see, make their day brighter and become a happier you.

It may end up being hundreds of years before anything is substantially different or it may never happen at all but everyone needs to think about what they themselves are doing to change for the better and positively influence others to do the same.

Life’s too short so please don’t waste it trying to look like a girl on a magazine or attempting to please others if it’s going to make you unhappy.

Be yourself and make a change.
